St. Bernadette's 25th

Prestwich & Whitefield Scout Group

The Scouts are encouraged to take part in our active programme which includes a wide range of activities. The key to success is through participation, rather than the achievement of certain standards or criteria. There are a number of challenge awards and badges the Scouts are able to achieve if they wish. We operate a balanced programme, split into six zones, which ensures that the aims of the Scout Association are met.

The Scouts meet every Friday for 2 hours (7:30pm-9:30pm).

We endeavour to do as many outdoor activities as possible throughout the year.  Learning through doing is the key and the outdoors provides the perfect setting for this. We enjoy the traditional Scouting activities such as camping, hiking, survival skills and cooking just as much as the adventurous activities - anything from a bit of rock climbing right through to laser quest and paintballing.

The scouts have taken part in three competitions in the last 6 months; the Bibby's Farm Incident Challenge, the Gadam Shield and the Lord Derby competition.

Two teams were entered for the Bibby's farm competition, and the scouts achieved first and second place, meaning that we have, as a group, won it for the 5th consecutive time.

The Gadam Shield is a county competition similar to the Bibby's Farm Incident Challenge. The scouts achieved second place in this competition, resulting in their entry into the Lord Derby competition.

The Lord Derby competition is a regional level competition, with scout groups coming from the Lake District, Yorkshire, the Isle of Man amongst others. They achieved second place, which is the highest any scout group has achieved in not only our group, but the district and county also.

We are all increadibly proud of the lads that took place in these competitions and congratulate you on your fantastic achievement!

The group went on camp to Bradley Wood, here's a few pictures from the weekend:

The Scouts took a trip down to Dunham Massey camp site in Altrincham over the weekend. They went on a hike and put some new map-reading and compass skills to the test!

The Scouts took part in a group camp last weekend (10/07/2015 - 12/07/2015). They cooked their own food, pitched their tents and crafted their own shelters which they slept in overnight!

The older and more experienced Scouts went on a survival expedition. Here is a picture of them being presented with their new and well earned badges.

Congratulations from all the leaders to you all!

The Scouts went paintballing on Saturday at Manchester Paintball Arena. We hope they all had a great time! Here are some pictures from the day:

The Scouts took part in the Bibby's Farm Incident challenge and gained both 1st and 2nd place winning the Gadam Shield!

Well done lads!
